Modular Sofas - Things You Need To Know Before Buying

By Jamie White

Is a modular sofa right for you? Would you perhaps consider one even if you could fit an ordinary one into your home, either traditional or contemporary?

Modular sofas are extremely versatile and a great way to make use of awkward spaces. They come in different numbers of modules for smaller or larger rooms, and in different configurations to fit different shaped rooms.

Modular sofas can look particularly impressive in LARGE spaces, as they tend to require more length and width of floor space than traditional types of sofa and therefore need sufficient area to look their best. They can be used to define spaces within a large area such as an open plan loft apartment or warehouse conversion. For this reason they may not be right for a small apartment.

Large modular sofas may not be so suitable as such for smaller Victorian London apartments or small homes with restricted room. It is possible, though even here to use modular types of sofa units with smaller numbers of units and in fact, their versatility in configuration means they can sometimes be placed where a traditional sofa simply would not fit.

If you are looking to get the maximum seating space you should also consider modular sofas. They are extremely functional and, often better value than the traditional type.

The modular type of sofa is available in a whole range of sizes and configurations. Small sofas are perhaps interesting in that they would be a comfy armchair for one person whilst being fit for a couple to cuddle in. Bear in mind though that the arms of a sofa will affect the seating capacity.

Another consideration is the amount of back support afforded by a sofa. Often the low-backed type look extremely chic and Italian, and will suit a room with a low ceiling, but, a low back is not very supportive and will not suit some. It is essential to try before you buy.

Another thing worth remembering is that the shape and size of the arms of the sofa can affect how large the furniture looks. Narrow arms make the entire sofa look smaller, whilst big or overstuffed ones will do the opposite.. Therefore, it is possible to get a larger-than-normal sofa to look good in a smaller room by choosing a narrow armed version. In a big room, a sofa with large arms will look more luxurious and impressive.

Where it is not really possible to fit in a standard sofa then you might want to consider a modular type. These very often sit along two walls rather than just the one and have a corner section which maintains the integrity of the whole unit rather than having it split into two separate portions.. These typically give a lot of seating space and will give a grand appearance in a large room.. Smaller rooms nay be able to accommodate a similar but shorter version giving a similar effect.

If you are limited for space or want double duty from your sofa, then a sofa bed might be an option. Sofa beds usually extend or open up to form a proper bed when required, but at other times have the appearance of a normal sofa.

When thinking about the furniture for your sitting room you may want to consider whether the arrangement will remain static, or whether you might need to change things around sometimes. If the latter then a sofa and some chairs may be more practical than a large sofa, or you may want a modular sofa that can be reconfigured in different ways to give a different look to the room.

If you keep all these factors in mind you should be able to find the perfect modular sofa for your home. - 29954
