Home Fluorescent Lighting

By Gregory Caddles

As fluorescent lights made their debut, most were excited about the new kind of light bulb which was able to produce bright, white light and spread it over wide areas efficiently while requiring only a little maintenance. This type of lighting was soon widespread in schools and offices, mostly because of their suitability for being used in larger areas. Bit by bit fluorescent lighting also found a foothold amongst home lighting choices.

Less expensive than regular light bulbs, fluorescent light bulbs and lighting fixtures give the homeowner more options than ever before. These bulbs have been improved upon steadily and no longer does the consumer have to struggle with what once was the often annoying flickering and buzzing of fluorescent lighting. Fluorescent bulbs have been perfected and improved steadily and now afford a perfect lighting option for almost any need.

Advantages of fluorescent light bulbs over regular bulbs include energy efficiency, cooler temperatures and the less expensive purchasing price. A fluorescent bulb actually uses up to 75% less energy and also requires little or no maintenance. On top of that, fluorescent bulbs also are available in all sizes and can be used for the many different styles of light fixtures on the market. Variety and versatility are important to homeowners when it comes to lighting and now even fluorescent light fixtures are able to meet these requirements.

Once you change over to fluorescent light bulbs you will eliminate changing bulbs often, save energy and money and the need to turn off the light every time you leave a room. Fluorescent light bulbs can now also be used in all types of lighting fixtures from floor lamps to chandeliers.

One thing to know is that the fluorescent light will use a bit more energy in the turning on and off process, but when they are left on they do not. It should also be noted that if you will be out of a room for a length of time it is better to turn the light off but for short trips out of the room it saves more energy to leave the light on.

A perfect place to use fluorescent lighting is in a kitchen and that is also where it is most often used, with the exception of in-home workshops. This is because it is easy to work by fluorescent lighting which is bright and white. Now fluorescent bulbs can also be used in just about any light fixture and find a place throughout the home. The homeowner doesn't even need to make any sacrifices in style or decor in order to use fluorescent lights.

In these tight economic times and as our awareness of the importance of energy efficiency grows, fluorescent lighting for home use is an option we all should consider. Saving money and eliminating the impact of our carbon footprint on the earth is something we are all taking much more seriously. Every little bit each of us does to decrease our energy consumption will have an impact down the road.

Using fluorescent lighting for all of your home lighting needs is now a viable option. Where once this type of lighting was relegated to big retail stores and office buildings, it now is readily available for everyday in-home use. - 29954
