Buying a Cheap TV: When's and Why's

By Armadeus Cornelius

Although it might be tempting, buying the largest, cheapest, television you can afford isn't always the best choice. Take some time to consider what the pros and cons are of buying the cheapest television you can. It might make the difference between a quality TV and a frustrating experience.

Brand name televisions are almost always going to be more expensive than off brand and unbranded LCDs and plasmas you might see online. The brand names cost more due to the fact that their brand name is recognizable. Cheap televisions can survive by constantly creating new brand names so that no one can recognize a new television as an inferior product they bought years ago.

Buying a Cheap TV: When's and Why's

Generally, your first step when planning on purchasing a new television will be to think about what you want. A customer concerned with quality, longevity, and customer service should always go with a popular brand. Just because these cost a little more than the dirt cheap off-brands, that doesn't mean they'll be expensive! In fact, with some careful shopping, customers can have the reliability and quality of major brands at prices they never thought possible.

That isn't to say that off-brands aren't entirely without their uses. Although the lifespan of the cheapest televisions can be as short as three years on average, that might be just right for you. If you're planning to buy a television that you won't be using for more than a short period of time, don't be afraid to purchase a cheap one rather than spend more on something you'll be getting rid of shortly. This is the perfect solution for college students who'll be leaving the dorms and most of their possessions behind in a few short years.

Cheap Plasma TVs: Not Much to Look At

Not all televisions are created equally. Customers who choose a cheap LCD or cheap plasma TV over a more trusted name will immediately see a difference in quality. Buying a cheap LCD TV or cheap plasma TV will result in over saturated images and other problems. This will be extremely noticeable during programs or movies with lots of quick movement or filmed in dark locations.

This is because the ability for these types of televisions to display dark blacks and other deep colours is dependent on the quality of the manufacturing. The cheapest LCD TVs and the cheapest plasmas are going to suffer due to the cost cutting taking places in the overseas factories where they're made. There might be some mileage to be found in pubs or other venues that require multiple cheap TVs, but most people will get more value out of a slightly more expensive name brand television.

Overall, most customers will have a better experience with name brand televisions compared to cheap TVs. However, there may be certain situations where buying the cheapest television available will make sense. Just take a little bit of time and review what you need before making a purchase and the decision should come easily. - 29954
