Choosing The Appropriate Kind Of Casket For The Last Journey Of The Deceased

By Abel Reyes

If a near and dear one has passed away, it is natural to feel overwhelmed with grief and unable to come to terms with the great loss and the void that his or her demise has created. But it is important to overcome that pain and make preparations for the funeral proceedings for which a suitable casket is essential.

Choosing an appropriate casket is quite difficult, as you would want to buy a good product at the correct price when you are just not in a mental state to bargain. However, making the final selection can be easier if the departed had expressed his preference for a specific kind of casket when he was alive or if his or her religious beliefs need a certain kind of casket.

Caskets can be of several shapes, sizes and designs, with rate tags varying accordingly. There are burial caskets and funeral caskets to select from in accordance with the funeral rites which will be followed. Funeral caskets allow for the visitors to glimpse the departed during ceremonies but burial caskets are generally only used at the time of burial.

Caskets are available in a range of materials like metal, fibre, wood and marble. Wooden caskets, which are the most traditional ones, are available in a wide range of wood types, namely mahogany, maple, oak, and so on. Wooden caskets are of great quality and look very elegant and nice when polished, but these also cost higher than caskets made of other materials. Alternatively, metal caskets come cheaper and are available in a range of finishes like bronze, steel, and copper, and in various designs and colours too.

Caskets made of environment friendly material are also becoming popular as people are becoming aware of their responsibility to the environment to protect our planet. As the basic materials used are completely biodegradable, these caskets result in least damage to the planet. These caskets are a great alternative if the deceased person was concerned about environment conservation. - 29954
