Ready-made Curtains- Cons In Consideration

By Sarah K Howarth

No one can deny the importance of curtains when it comes to their role in the interior design of a room. For the room to qualify as elegant and presentable, the selection of curtains has to be impeccable. Any designer with a clever mind would pay considerable attention to the aspect of curtains in the course of designing the room (or any area). Appropriate selection of curtains would go a long way in bringing out an aesthetic air to the room decor while a screw-up in the alternative case would throw cold water over the other supposedly elegant efforts of the interior decorator.

Curtains come in two basic types: ready made curtains and made to order curtains. While the made to order curtains are the oldest and most popular type of curtains, ready made curtains have carved out a niche for themselves. Made to order curtains are prepared after taking exact measurements of the windows, doors or other places where these curtains have to be placed.

In the case of made to order curtains, one needs to hand out the measurements of the place where they are supposed to be placed, so that they are prepared in respective accordance. Another aspect of made to order curtains is the selection of fabrics, textures, and colours of the curtain. This freedom of choice allows the designer to depict a touch of creativity in the decor of the room.

Ready-made curtains on the other hand come in a prepared fashion and one cannot go for any alterations or changes, except for minor ones like shortening the length of the curtain. Ready-made curtains also do not have any great variety available in the choice of fabrics, colours and textures. One can surely buy a curtain that best suits the interior decoration, but there always remains a flaw or void in the interior design.

To cut a long story short made to order curtains are a reflection of the designer's imagination and illustrates how he/she perceives the essentials that are required to design that particular room or area.

Relatively expensive ready-made curtains are stronger than the cheaper ones, but they also have design flaws. Many people complain about the lack of design varieties in these curtains. Most come with a single prototype and with only minor variations. Some ready-made curtains have innovative designs, but one cannot adjust them on bigger windows as they come in mostly standard sizes.

This is the biggest problem of ready-made curtains that you cannot place them on any type and shape of windows easily. If you try to do some alterations through cutting and then sewing the unwanted parts of the curtain, the whole shape becomes disfigured and the curtain becomes unfit for use.

Overall, as was stated earlier, ready-made curtains despite having succeeded in carving a niche for them, have their share of disadvantages. One has to weigh both pros and cons in accordance with his/her preferences in order to make a productive decision. - 29954
